8Dio Century Orchestral Strings is a leap forward in truly realistic symphonic strings. Playable and expressive beyond words. Produced by long-time Academy Award, T.E.C and G.A.N.G Award Winning and Emmy-Nominated producers, Colin O’Malley and Troels Folmann

Century Orchestral Strings is available in three volumes: Traditional Ensemble Strings, Sordino (Muted) Ensemble Strings and a Bundle featuring both that saves you 30% compared to the individual volumes.

The Traditional Ensemble Strings contains five unique string ensembles, including 1st Violins (6 players), 2nd Violins (4 players), Violas (5 players), Cellos (4 players) and Basses (4 players). All the five sections contain many matching articulations, so you can freely orchestrate all the sections. The Sordino Strings also contain a similar symmetry, so everything can be used as one.

Century Orchestral Strings were recorded in a new and advanced environment that allowed us to both have wet (hall) and close (studio) sounding strings at the same time. This means you have total room control. From large, lush orchestral strings to close and intimate studio strings. Six different microphone options, including Mixed, Decca, Wide/Far and three close studio spot mics (Close 1-3).

The new user-interface binds it all together. Access the entire articulation menu with a few clicks of a mouse. As well as instant access to all microphone and articulation controls. Century is complex underneath, yet so simple and beautiful on the outside.

Century Orchestral Strings contains every single articulation you would expect – and a wealth of new and intelligently programmed patches. All legato articulations are dynamically layered and many contain full vibrato control. All arcs are also velocity based. Play soft and get a soft arc. Play harder and get a more pronounced arc. These were also recorded at different speeds, so they can elegantly wrap around your composition. Lets not forget the short notes, which were recorded so deep they may never need to be sampled again.

Real Strings - Real Emotion

The beating heart of Century Orchestral Strings is its completely realistic sound, playability and emotion. Every string section has a unique character and wide dynamic profile. You can easily weave in and out of dynamics. All legatos are dynamically layered and with full ability to control true vibrato. Arcs are also velocity-based, so you can just play and feel the strings. A multitude of different types of short notes. But perhaps, more importantly, is the fact we paid equal attention to traditional and sordino (muted) strings, so you can mix and match between regular and muted strings freely. The combination of the two is integral to that motion picturesque soft, silky and emotional sound.

Control The Room

Century Orchestral Strings comes with 6 dedicated microphone positions. First, you have our three hall microphones: “Mixed, DECCA and Wide/Far”, which offers you the traditional large symphonic sound. Secondly, you have up to three dedicated close microphones: “Close 1, Close 2 and Close 3”, which gives you a much more dry, close and studio like sound. You can freely mix between all the microphones. Perhaps you want those 1st violins playing a melody with a lush DECCA microphone, while the 2nd violins are more present with a mixture of Close and DECCA mics. The many panning options allows you to place the strings exactly where you want them – both in regards to distance (mic gain) and panoramic perspective (pan).

Instant Access

Access all articulations with a few simple clicks. One of the cornerstones of Century is the architecture behind it. All patches in Century comes with 10 empty slots. Double click on any of the slots and gain instant access to all the articulations. Select whatever you want and you are set. Every slot automatically gets assigned to a key-switch (or CC if you prefer), so you can literally create an advanced articulation matrix of up to 10 articulations in just a few seconds. So no more loading different program files for a simple arrangement, and no more hassle. It is all there, conveniently inside of the same patch – just a click away.

Dynamic Legato - Seamless Expression

Century Orchestral Strings sets a new standard for legato sampling. Casting sessions were held and we hand-picked the best players from all across Europe – not just a single country. We created new sampling techniques – allowing us to record the instruments more fluently. The end-result offers you the ability to freely move between dynamics. The sound is truly authentic, dynamic and lyrical. All the instruments have personality. Designed to move you. Designed to move your audience. Infused with personality. With effortless Playability.

A Wealth of Short Notes

Century Orchestral Strings contains the most advanced set of dynamic short-notes available. From the smooth spiccatos to more piercing tapped spiccatos, from staccatos to marcatos, from Short Note Arcs with one and two bow strokes to Pizzicatos, Bartoks, Col Legno, Loure Shorts and everything in between. The short notes were recorded and programmed with a variety of new techniques developed for Century. You can even control the actual speed and definition of the short notes – from gentle, feathery strokes – to more defined and pointy attacks.

Century Bundle

Century Orchestral Strings is offered in two separate libraries. One for Traditional Ensemble Strings and another for Sordino (Muted) Strings. The two libraries were fully designed to be used together and all core articulations are symmetrically designed between the two libraries. We have also created a Century Orchestral String Bundle that contains both volumes and saves you 30% off compared to the individual volumes. And don’t forget our Century Strings Freebie, which gives you a little sneak-peak into the world of Century Strings. The Freebie contains a small selection of our vast expressive arcs – with access to all microphone positions.

8Dio Century Orchestral Brass Bundle is the definitive state-of-the-art collection of ultra-realistic brass instruments. Our most significant leap forward in orchestral deep-sampling. Infused with emotion and intention in every sample.

Effortless and playable beyond words. 8Dio Century Orchestral Series is produced by long-time Academy Award, Emmy Nominated, T.E.C and G.A.N.G Award winning producers, Colin O’Malley and Troels Folmann

This luxury bundle collection contains both our powerful Century Ensemble Brass collection – and our exquisite Century Solo Brass collection.

The Ensemble Brass consists of 6 ensemble types: 2 Trumpets, 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, 4 Trumpets, 6 Horns and 12 Horns. The Solo Brass contains 7 individual brass instruments, including 1 Trumpet, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone, 1 Flugel Horn, 1 Cimbasso, 1 Tuba and 1 Bass Trombone.

All elegant creations in each their way. From the soaring bite of the incredibly tight 2-Piece Trumpet Ensemble to the defined and fluent sound of our Dual Horns. From the powerful, fluent notes of 3 Trombones to the noble sound of a 4-Trumpet Ensemble. The 6 horns don’t need any further introduction – other than they are the best we have ever played. The 12 Horns augment the experience with a large, lyrical soundscape. The Solo Trumpet creating ornaments on top of it all. Perhaps even the Solo Flugel Horn with all its rich lushness. Maybe even a twilight sunset with the French Horn? Maybe a powerful, yet delicate solo with our Cimbasso or Tuba. The tone and character of Century is uncompromised and unparalleled.

The shell of Century Ensemble Brass is our custom-designed user-interface. Offering virtually every option to express yourself. All simple. All one page.

Inside the shell you will find the secret to Century Ensemble Brass. An exquisite collection of luxury virtual instruments – specifically designed for high-end, emotional realism. The Century Brass Sessions took place over 2 years, selectively hand-picked players from all across Europe.

Over 700 hours of session/recording time. Only lord knows how many sessions – and then retakes – and even further retakes.

Century Orchestral Brass was derived from several new recording and sampling techniques. All the legatos are not only layered in dynamics, but we created new programs that offer you a completely smooth transition. So when you need to take your Ensemble Horn from Piano to Fortissimo – just do it – and it works effortlessly. We also recorded a wealth of different short notes. There is so much more than the typical staccatos and marcatos. We recorded unique fanfare oriented short notes – with more bite and tension. We recorded traditional articulations – at multiple lengths. More arcs then you could dream of. But, of course all arcs are now dynamically layered and recorded at multiple lengths. So, in essence, you have control over Dynamics (CC1), Expression (CC11) and Speed (CC16).

Century Orchestral Brass is not a sample library to us. It is a truly emotional and realistic collection of incredibly deep-sampled brass instruments. It can be anything you want it to be. The softest skin you ever touched. The thunderous end of a world. It can be subtle. It can be Forte. But it will always be lyrical.

True Brass. True Emotion

The heart of Century Orchestral Brass is its hyper-realistic sound, playability and emotion. Every instrument has a unique character and wide dynamic profile. You can easily weave in and out of dynamics. From the softest whisper to the loudest thunder. Century Orchestral Brass comes with our custom built-in browser system. The browser offers you access to every articulation with the click of a mouse. But perhaps most importantly it all just works. This is why Century Orchestral Brass took almost 3 years to complete. No stones unturned. No expense spared.

Dynamic Legato. Seamless Expression

Century Brass sets a new standard for legato sampling. Casting sessions were held and we hand-picked the best brass players from all across Europe – not just a single country. We created new sampling techniques – allowing us to record the instruments more dynamically. The end-result offers you the ability to freely move between dynamics. The sound is truly authentic, dynamic and lyrical. All the instruments have personality. Designed to move you. Designed to move your audience. Infused with personality. Effortless Playability.

Short Note Abundance

Century Orchestral Brass contains the most advanced set of dynamic short-notes available. Gone are the days of just staccato, marcato and sustains. We even divided the short notes into different categories. Maybe you want soaring marcato trumpets with slight vibrato? Maybe you want double or even triple tongue for a Williams inspired action sequence. Maybe you want further speed control over those? Or could you be looking for something more gentle? Pastoral, noble and soft short notes. And did we mention speed control? I’m sure we did.

4 Microphone Arrays

Century has got you covered. 4 arrays of pristine microphone positions offer you any angle you want. Perhaps you just want an easy, “sweet spot” Mix of all our microphones perspectives? Maybe you desire the much more intimate and delicate sound of the Close mics? Maybe you require a 5.1 mix or perhaps a classical mix? Well, Century has both Decca and Wide/Far microphone arrays to help with that. With everything offered in a singular, easy, but advanced environment, instant access to all 4 microphone arrays, and access to all articulations are all but a click away.

Modular Century

Our Century Bundle Brass collection is specifically designed as modular libraries. Everything designed to work together. All the Century libraries were recorded in the same hall and with identical microphone setups and core articulations. This way you can build your own modular ensembles by combining Solo and Ensemble Brass. You have the choice to specifically design your ensembles whether it is designing a 1-10 Piece Trumpet Ensemble or 1-19 Horn Ensemble. Whether its an intimate section of Solo Brass – augmented with a Dual Horn. Or whether you just want to go all out epic and use every available section. Century offers it all. The perfect modular experience.

Century Ostinato Strings was produced by Academy Award, TEC Foundation, G.A.N.G and D3 award-winning Composer Troels Folmann.

The library contains four Ultra Deep-Sampled Ostinato sections for both Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. It was designed to cover all types of Ostinato patterns from the slow, gentle to fast and forte. The Ostinatos were recorded both as traditional multi-samples and as unique ostinato-samples. The multi-samples contains three types of Spiccato (Single, Double, Triplet), Marcato etc. The Ostinato-samples were recorded at four different tempos slow, medium, fast and very fast – and at multiple dynamics, which is simply controlled on your modwheel.

Century Ostinato Strings contains over 20.700 Ostinato Samples and 4 Microphone positions, including Mixed, Close/Intimate, DECCA and Far/Wide. This gives you complete control over the room and sound. Whether you need a close, chamber like sound or a more rich and full symphonic experience. The Ostinatos were also recorded with the identical players, conductor and same gorgeous hall used for our Century String and Brass collections.

But most importantly Century Ostinato Strings is easy to use, highly playable and infused with life. It breathes a new soul into string writing and allows for completely realistic String Ostinatos like never before.

Short Note Abundance

Century Ostinato Strings is designed to cover filmic short-notes in any way possible. First we recorded three types of Spiccato (Single, Double-Stroke, Triplets), which allows for more advanced harmonic figures. These were recorded in round-robin fashion too. But even more extensively we recorded four types of Ostinato Patterns from Slow, Medium to Fast and Ultra Fast. The Ostinatos seamlessly adapts to your DAW host-tempo. The Slow Ostinatos are recorded in more flowing fashion – where as Fast Ostinatos ones have a more bouncy/action type of feel. All the Ostinatos were also recorded dynamically – meaning that you can control the velocity dynamics via modwheel. Just play it like a piano and you are set.

Modular Century

Our Century Ostinato Strings were recorded in the same hall as the rest of our Century Series. The same players. The same conductor. The same engineer and microphone positions. All Century libraries are designed as modular libraries. Everything designed to work together. All the Century libraries were recorded in the same hall and with identical microphone setups and core articulations. This way you can build your own modular ensembles by combining both Century Stings, Harps and Century Brass libraries.

4 Microphone Arrays

Century has a Highly customizable sound with 4 arrays of pristine microphone positions offer you any angle you want. Perhaps you just want an easy, “sweet spot” Mix of all our microphones perspectives? Pull in the close microphones to get an ultra tight low end for extremely fast Ostinatos!

Century GUI

ADAGIO is the air, the flow, the burn and the sorrow of symphonic strings.

Produced by Academy Award, TEC and G.A.N.G Award Winning Composer, Troels Folmann and Emmy Nominated Composer and Orchestrator, Colin O’Malley,  8Dio Adagio String Series is a new-generation orchestral sample library and the most expressive collection of deep-sampled strings ever created.

The Adagio Bundle contains Adagio Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. All the Adagio libraries contains three main groups: Full Ensemble, Divisi/Chamber section and Solo sections.  All groups have been extensively sampled and recorded in a signature church environment with a hand-selected group of great players from the San Francisco Bay Area. All groups were sampled with three different microphone positions (close, far, mixed) and we deployed a variety of never-done-before sampling techniques from round robin based legato and the ability to connect legato effortlessly with other articulations like loure (floating notes) and dynamic bowings (expressive notes). In addition we have some of the most deep-sampled short notes ever done.

Adagio Strings is designed for professional composers and orchestrators. The individual volumes each contains several unique legato recordings (ex. round robin based legato, slurred/emotional legato, sordino legato) and the Violins, Cellos and Violas combined contains 36 different types of legatos. In addition you will find over 120 different types of Dynamic Bowings and 60 different types of Loures. All articulations in Adagio (ex. 36 legato) are all unique recordings, so you won’t find different variations of the same samples, but in fact find unique and different recordings of … everything! Welcome to the future of sampling with motion and emotion.

Playability and Choices

Adagio is next-generation orchestral sampling. We recorded 38 different types of liquid legato to cover the vast majority of natural flow techniques. The legato performances are modeled around lyrical melodies, capturing some of the spirit of the composers we love. The power of this approach cannot be over stated. Adagio captures great musicians performing as they were born to … never a static moment. Legato intervals were sampled up to 4 times round robin allowing for an even greater degree of realism. Loure or “floating notes” are also a key part of Adagio, allowing composers to perform repeated notes with connectivity. We’ve also included unprecedented “Loure Legato” patches. They have to be played to be believed.

Expressive Strings

Adagio allows for traditional dynamic cross-fading of sustains to shape notes. In addition to this, we deep-deep-deep sampled “Dynamic Bowing” articulations.  These are notes that weep and soar effortlessly.  With our intuitive programming we believe this “dynamic” approach is far superior to traditional cross-fading in the quest for a final degree of musical realism. Comprehensive short notes are another highlight of Adagio.  With feathery spiccatos, biting marcatos, lively pizzicatos and more, Adagio is both nuanced and acrobatic. Short notes are sampled in up to 10 round robins.  The attacks of the notes have an energy and musical imperfection that will re-define your string template.  Trills, tremolos and measured tremolos are also sampled in great depth for an extra shimmer or relentless pulse in your music. Adagio is an intuitive out-of-box tool. It works fluently without mangling.
